One of the things people who call me at their house ask me the most is, after the usual treatement of the skin by using several creams based on the kind of skin of my clients, is massage.
Massage is like art, a beautician has to have delicate hands to do it. I want to start this post by writing an identikit of the appropriate environment that fits the most to what I like to call art of pleasure and relax.
1- The atmosphere. In order for you to relax deeply and focus on te sensations, what is needed the most is that the room where the massage is made is clean and not chaotic. The sight must be “caressed”, too: soft lights and/or candles would be the key.
2- Temperature. The excessive heat or cold divert the focus on the outside and they are an obstacle to relax. Do not refrain from demanding your beautician to change the temperature of the room as better fits you.
3- Perfumes. During the massage, the olfactory sensations are fundamental. Use of perfumes would be needed, but if you can’t stand, say, the smell of incense, let your beautician know.
4- Music and sounds. The massage have always to take place in a room without rumors and in almost total silence. Most beauticians are used to keep the radio on, or to “impose” you new age music. If you don’t want music in the background, let her know.
Now, let’s see which kind of massage you could need of.
a) Do you feel you’re getting older? You would need ayurvedic treatements like the “abyangam” and the “pindasweda”. Both derive from the Indian tradition of the rasayana, which are rejuvenation therapies and consist in effective massages using curative oils and tampons. Pindasweda is very useful against acne.
b) Those who suffer from stress. Whatever kind of massage is helpful: from shiatsu, to thai and connectival. If you need comfort, then you would opt for the stone therapy, ayurveda and the aroma-therapy. If your stress is due to difficoult period you’re going through, opt for bio-energetic and crystal-therapy.
c) If you suffer from backache. First of all, go to the doctor and tell him to prescribe you a series of physioteraphic massages. Shiatsu is also very helpful, but make it sure the therapyst is expert in treating this pathology. If the backache is due to bad positions you take when you sit, for example, when using the computer, opt for the bio-energetic or thai massage.
d) If you need to fight your difficoult periods, a massage won’t solve your problems, but it will comfort you. Opt for the ayurvedic or tibetan massage, consisting in “caresses” with hot oils. Effective anti-depression treatements are the stone-therapy, the massage with crystals and the aroma-therapy. If you’re really down, you may need reflexology.
